Counterfeit Product Page Evidence: A Capture Checklist

Capture listing context, seller identity, product claims, pricing, imagery, variants, reviews, and transaction information before escalation.

Counterfeit product listing evidence capture checklist

A product thumbnail rarely contains enough information for counterfeit review. The complete listing may reveal the seller, product claims, variants, customer feedback, shipping source, and transaction context needed to decide what happens next.

Capture the listing identity

Record the complete URL, marketplace, listing or product identifier, title, seller name, storefront link, date, time, and territory or marketplace region. If the URL contains temporary tracking parameters, preserve the original and a normalized version.

Take a full-page capture plus focused screenshots of important sections. Keep the browser address and relevant platform labels visible.

Preserve product representations

Collect the main image, image gallery, video, brand field, product description, specifications, model number, packaging statements, and visible trademark use. Record all meaningful variants because sellers may place suspicious products behind a legitimate-looking default option.

Do not download executable files or interact with unsafe content outside an approved environment.

Record commercial context

Useful details include:

  • Price, discount, currency, and comparison price.
  • Stock and sales indicators where displayed.
  • Shipping origin, destination, and estimated delivery.
  • Fulfillment party and return information.
  • Product condition and authenticity claims.
  • Warranty, support, or “official” statements.

A low price can support prioritization but does not prove a product is counterfeit. Compare it with other observable signals and product-authentication information.

Document seller and storefront information

Open the storefront and record seller identifiers, business details, ratings, account age, product mix, contact routes, and other suspicious listings. Keep listing evidence separate from broader seller analysis so a reviewer can see which facts relate to the individual product.

Use reviews carefully

Customer reviews may contain photographs, authenticity concerns, safety complaints, or references to packaging differences. Preserve the review URL or identifier, date, visible username, and relevant text. Treat reviews as third-party statements, not verified facts.

Avoid collecting unnecessary personal information. Redact customer data in reports that do not require it while preserving the original evidence under appropriate access controls.

Connect the listing to the protected product

Add official product photographs, authorized model numbers, packaging references, trademark records, and known distribution information. Identify the visible differences that require specialist review rather than declaring the product counterfeit based on appearance alone.

Product authentication may require purchasing and examining an item. Any test purchase should follow legal, safety, finance, and evidence-handling procedures approved by the organization.

Complete a pre-submission check

Before escalation, confirm that the case includes the exact listing, seller, protected right, product reference, reason for concern, authority to report, and required declaration. Save the platform submission reference and the version of evidence used.
